After meeting with this neurologist, he also felt that I was having some neurological problems. After performing some neurological tests on me, he said that I didn't have dementia. The doctor changed my diagnosis from Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease (EOAD) to Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). He said that my brain doesn't work like most people my age.
He gave me a script for the same medication that I had to stop taking a few months ago. The script was given to me by my first neurologist, Unfortunately, again this medication caused severe leg cramps, so I had to stop taking it. Then he switched my medication to a different dementia drug. I haven’t had any side effects from this one. He told me that the medication should slow the progression.
Although there is no medication that is specifically used to treat MCI, most patients are prescribed Alzheimer's drugs.
For many years after this appointment, I had no idea which was the correct diagnosis. My primary care physician told me that he feels that the first diagnosis of EOAD is the correct one. I think that time will tell what I’m really dealing with.
