A difficult staff development day
Today, we had a staff development day at school and I have learned to not look forward to them at all! On the agenda for this day, was “safety training” and it was very difficult for me because of my memory problems. We were shown how to do safety restraints with students. Then we each had to individually show that we could do it correctly by partnering with another staff member. There were just too many steps in this training for me to remember. One of our staff members was actually doing the training because she had been trained as a facilitator. I told her privately the problems that I was having and she was very patient with me. After a few tries, I was able to do it. During this time, the instructor reminded me how it should be done. This continued several times for different procedures. Then I became upset and I left the room. I went into the ladies’ room and I had a good cry! I was very upset by how this made me feel! After I was able to calm down, I returned to the training. I think that I was able to get certified in this training today. Yeah me!
