(Chapter 21 Learning Something New in my book)
This past weekend, I needed to buy a new cordless phone. The old one wouldn't hold a charge anymore and I kept losing people while talking to them. That definitely doesn't work for me. It is a cordless phone with a digital answering machine which I've also had in the past. The confusion started when I attempted to record a message for the answering machine. I wished the instruction booklet had some sort of script, but it didn't. After several times of not being able to finish recording it because I couldn't remember what I wanted to say, I wrote a script. Writing a script took a little bit of time, but then I was able to record my message. I know that when I wasn't living with a memory impairment, this task had been fairly easy and quick to complete. Having a memory impairment just makes these things that much harder. I no longer take things for granted. I also noticed today that when I tried a new microwave popcorn bowl, that it was also a challenge. I didn't quite understand the directions. Sometimes my memory is affected, but today it is problems with my comprehension. Today, some words that I read didn't seem make sense in my brain and I noticed that my reading is a little slower. Unfortunately, there is nothing that I can do that will change this. I just need to have patience with myself so I can get through it.
