Problems with remembering people

This past Sunday, I attended a bowling fundraiser for a friend. After I made a donation, I was given a ticket. That is when my problems began because it didn’t really matter how many times this person explained about the ticket to me, it just didn’t make sense in my brain.
The ticket was so that I could get free pizza and a cupcake, but since I had already eaten lunch, I really didn’t want the pizza. I tried to explain this, but they just kept saying something like, “you can hand your ticket to someone when you take the pizza”. I didn’t see any pizza on a table, but did see the cupcakes.
I found a bowling lane and I recognized some friends, so I asked if I could bowl with them and they said yes. I was having a good time bowling. Then a short time later, they made an announcement and I also saw the pizza on a table, which was next to the cupcakes. They explained in the announcement what to do. Now it made sense to me, so I walked up to the person who was giving out the pizza. I handed them my ticket and explained that I didn’t want any pizza. I went over to the other table and I got a cupcake.
While I was bowling, I was talking to a close friend who also used to be my bowling partner for many, many years. She was talking about one of the women who were at one of the raffle tables. She told me the person’s name and that we used to bowl with her in a league. I didn’t recognize her name or her face. She then asked if I recognized another person and I had recognized them, but not their names. Neither of these women said anything to me, so I’m not sure if they knew who I was either. My friend said that we had bowled many years ago with both of these ladies. I told her that usually my long-term memory was better than my short-term memory, but in this case, that didn’t seem to matter. Why was this so difficult for me to figure out?
I’m very much a “people” person, so this is having a negative impact on my life!! Luckily, there are times when I forget that I’ve forgotten something.
