Challenges while food shopping

Sometimes my memory problems are very much moment to moment when I just can’t remember something. For example, when I was food shopping, I picked up a box of crackers and I checked the expiration date. Then I put them in my cart and I decided to compare this date with another box on the shelf, so I picked up another box and I looked for the date. That is when the frustration happened. I felt so very stupid, when I kept turning the box and I just couldn’t find a date. Then I picked up the box in my cart and I tried to find the date, which I eventually did. So, I compared which end of the box had the date and after a short time I was finally able to find the date on the second box. I was alone shopping so I have no idea how long this took, but all I know is it seemed like forever!
I don’t think that these things happen every time that I shop, but all I know is that it made me feel very stupid, even though I know it isn’t my fault. But then I ask myself, how can I forget where the date is on the box, just a few seconds or a minute later? I guess this is just one of the things that my children don't understand. Simple tasks for most people, can be very complicated for someone who is living with a memory impairment.
