Explaining to my boyfriend what music means to me

The other day, I was playing a music game on social media. I think that my favorite category is the 70’s music. I grew up in the 70’s and I still really enjoy it. After I played a challenge, I played some of the songs, since I really liked them. I was singing to them and I was really enjoying myself!

I think that my boyfriend wasn’t enjoying it because he was watching something on tv and I was sitting next to him. I don’t think that he was kidding when he said something like, “I have to listen to music now and then later when you are watching tv.” I just shut down my computer.

I even left the room because he had upset me. I went into the bathroom and I just cried. I tried to figure out why this upset me. All I know is music brings me joy and makes me happy! It lifts me up when I am feeling sad!

I think the reason that what he said upset me is because there are many things that I forget each day, whether it is important or not. My memory is not selective, which means that I don’t CHOOSE what I can remember and what I forget. I can still remember many, many song lyrics, especially from the 70’s. I think that is because my long-term memory is much better than my short-term memory. When I remember these songs, it is a reminder of what I can still remember and not what I have forgotten.

My boyfriend and I talked about what happened and he said that he wasn’t really mad, but he wanted me to know that he was watching the tv and my music was making it hard for him to hear it. I’ve been living alone for more than four years, so I just have to get used to when he is here and perhaps next time, I can just take my laptop into the other room.

I also explained to him about one of the reasons that music makes me so happy and I think that he gets the fact that it reminds me of what I can still remember and not what I’ve forgotten.
