Last weekend after going food shopping, I realized that I need to make a change. I only went to pick up a few items, so I was using a hand basket rather than a shopping cart. The basket was getting a little heavy and I still needed to get a few more items, so I just put my basket down and went over to the produce dept.
A few minutes later, I went back to where I thought I had left the basket, only to not find it there. I walked around and I still couldn’t find it. I asked some store employees and they verified that a store associate had not moved it. So, I just started looking again. I tried to retrace my steps, going towards the produce dept. There on the floor, I found my basket.
I think at first what I did, was look for the basket where I left it when I previously shopped in this store on another day. This often happens because my long-term memory is much better than my short-term memory. I often have trouble remembering things moment to moment. I think that the next time I go shopping, I will make sure that I keep the basket or shopping cart right with me, so that I don’t have to waste time looking for it.
Something this simple can frustrate and stress me out because it makes me feel really dumb, even though I know that it is not my fault.
I always use a shopping list, no matter how many things that I need to buy. I will continue to make changes in my life that make things easier for me to function.
I sometimes tell my friend that I'm my own worst enemy. I say this because sometimes I have an enormous amount of patience for everyone else, except ME! I know that I shouldn't do this, but bad habits are tough to break. I just need to stay strong!
