How my boyfriend supports me

The other night, my boyfriend and I participated in a fundraising walk. The walk was at a minor league baseball park. I knew that I had been there before, but it had probably been a few years. When my boyfriend and I entered the stadium, I felt the need to get my bearings. This means that I needed to look around the stadium and get familiar with the place. I know that sometimes this is something that I need to do when I go to a place that I either have never been to or it has been a long time. I scanned the field, the seating, the concession stands and bathrooms. I figured that this would later help me if I got separated from my boyfriend or my friends.

I stayed right with him because I really didn’t want to get lost. I felt myself getting a little nervous, but I knew that in a short time that I would feel more comfortable being there. I guess my fear was of losing sight of him and not knowing how to find him! A short distance from us, I saw a Ladies Room sign. I told him that I needed to go to the bathroom and that I would be right back. I don’t remember asking him this, but he later said that I checked with him to make sure that he would be waiting for me. He told me that he would definitely be there when I came out.

A short time later, we were able to find my friend and her husband. We walked with them to the beginning of the race. The walk was great and I was able to settle into these surroundings, knowing that I had him right by my side!

After the walk, all the participants from the walk were sitting in the same section to see the baseball game. Before the game, my boyfriend and I found seats behind my friend and her husband. We left our coats and we went to get our food.

My boyfriend was looking for sausage and I decided to get some French fries. I found some French fries, but I wanted to stay with him, so we continued looking for the sausage. For me standing and ordering my food and him going to another food vendor was really not an option for me! Once he found a sausage vendor, I was able to find a French fry vendor right nearby.

I will continue to live my life to the fullest and not let this memory impairment stop me from doing things that I enjoy! I don’t avoid going to new place because I just learn to adjust and it all works out in the end.

Even though my three grown children don’t seem to understand what it is like for me to live with a memory impairment, I will continue to educate them!
