Why did I throw that in the trash?

Sometimes if I don't laugh, I will cry! About a week ago, when I saw a doctor, they gave me a nebulizer machine to bring home, because of the bronchitis that I'm battling and I have asthma. While I was at the doctor's appointment, I had someone show me how to set up the machine. I had never owned one before. I knew that I would need them to show me how to set it up a few times until I was comfortable doing it.
So far, the machine has been very easy for me to use and no problems until a short time ago. I went to use the nebulizer, but I couldn’t find the piece that connects to the tube onto the machine. After each use, this is usually unattached, washed and then put in my dish drainer to dry. I have done this several times a day, without a problem, except now!
I looked everywhere for this piece, but it was not where it should have been. Then I checked the trash and I was able to find it. I have no idea what I was thinking last night, but apparently things weren’t right. Luckily, I was able to find it, wash it and I’m now able to use it again. Crisis averted!!
I was talking to a friend and I told her what happened. She asked me if I remembered putting it in the trash and I said, no. All I remembered was using the nebulizer before going to bed last night. After that I don't really remember anything.
