Why do I try so hard to remember things that aren't that important?

The other night my boyfriend and I were watching tv. He had been watching a movie and I thought that I recognized the actress, so I was trying to think of her name. He said that he wasn’t good with names and he didn’t know it. He asked me why it meant so much to me to try to remember her name. I thought for a moment and said” I’m not really sure why I can get so obsessive about trying to remember who a person is that I see on tv, or perhaps the name of a singer or the song they sing.” Then, I said why I thought that I do this. I told him that in any given day, I forget a lot of things. Hopefully, if it is important, someone will remind me. So, when I think that I can remember something, I try really hard to search my brain for the answers. A lot of times, I can come up with it, but sometimes I can’t. I told him that I think that I try so hard because I want to remember whatever I still can remember. I just don’t want to give up and say, “I can’t remember.” I have to continue to use my brain so I can do as well as I can. I was able to remember the actress’s name.
