My boyfriend was not understanding why I was doing something

The other day, my boyfriend and I were sitting on the couch. I gave him a hug. Then I rubbed his cheek. He said that he wasn’t a dog, so I didn’t need to pat him.
I got very quiet. Then I quietly cried. After a short time, I gathered my thoughts and I told him that I knew that he wasn’t a dog and I wasn’t patting him. I said that I touched his cheek because I didn’t remember if or when I had done that before, so I didn’t know how it felt! I was crying a lot! He said that he was sorry that he made me upset.
I continue to hope and pray that this memory impairment doesn’t tear us apart! I will try to remember to explain things to him when there is a misunderstanding. I actually HATE drama, but sometimes it seems that I’m the one who causes it. I just hate when these things happen, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to avoid it! I know that he is trying to understand things and I will continue to help him with this.
