How easily I got startled

A few days ago, my boyfriend came over to my apartment and we were getting ready to go out on a date. Before we left, he went into the bathroom. When he opened the door and came out of the bathroom, I got a little startled but I didn’t think that he noticed. He asked me if I ever get startled because I forget that he is with me. I said that this just happened to me. I tried not to feel sad, but it did make me feel that way. A short time later, I asked him if he knew that I had felt startled and he said no. I think that this is the 1st time that this has happened to me. I think that this happened because I forgot that he was at my apartment with me. Sometimes I wonder how I can forget something so quickly. It is very strange. He said that now he will open doors slowly, so that I won't get startled.
