Why can't I problem solve?

This weekend, my boyfriend and I spent some time at his place. I think that the last time that I had been there was about two months. On Saturday afternoon, we drove to his place. For dinner, he cooked some steak on the grill outside and I cooked some French fries and corn on the cob inside.
It was a really good dinner and things were going well with my cognition. He was sitting down eating and I decided to get my ear of corn. I opened up the cabinet and I found a small plate. I used the thongs to take the corn out and I tried to put it on the plate, but it was way too big to fit on a small plate. I just put the corn back in the water and I sat down. I began to eat my steak and French fries. He asked me if I needed to cook my corn a little longer and I said no. He asked why I wasn’t eating it. I told him that I only found a small plate and the corn didn’t fit on the plate. He said that he had large plates and he got up and got it for me.
After I sat down, I realized that we both were using large plates for our steak and French fries. He must have taken these out of the cabinet because I had no clue where he kept them. I have no idea why I didn’t just ask him where the bigger plates were. Why didn’t I just open the cabinet doors and look inside? I have no clue! Instead, I just couldn’t figure out how to solve this problem so I put the corn back into the water. This should have been a simple task, but for me, it wasn’t. Sometimes my problem-solving skills are lacking!
I remember standing at this pot of water that the corn was in and I remember feeling very confused. When things like this happen to me, it seems as though there are connections that are missing in my brain. Perhaps the fog had rolled in!
