(Chapter 3 Memory Problems in my book)
About a week ago, I made some blueberry pancakes for breakfast. I am not sure when I used the pancake syrup before today. When it became a challenge for me to open the flip top lid, I was surprised by this. I think that I have used the same brand of syrup for at least fifteen years, so I thought this should be in my long-term memory. It took about three days for me to use up the pancake batter and each day I struggled with figuring out how to open the syrup bottle.
Luckily, I was able to figure out where the back of the top was on the bottle. Then I was able to push it up. Later, I did figure out an easier way of doing it. If I wasn't able to open the lid, I would just unscrew the top off completely. I was happy that I was able to figure it out, but it did take some time. I didn't automatically know how to open this.
These things sometimes happen and they usually are not consistent. Perhaps the next time that I use the syrup, I will remember how to open it, but there is a chance that it will still be a challenge for me. There is just no way of knowing what to expect. What is most surprising to me about this problem is that this should be in my long-term memory and most of my problems are related to my short-term memory.
