(Chapter 6 Living with a Memory Impairment in my book)
This past Friday, was my friend's birthday, so I stopped at the grocery store to pick up a cake. I went to the bakery department and I picked out a strawberry shortcake. I thought that this was her favorite because I remember buying this cake for her before.
Then the strangest thing happened to me! As I was figuring out which cake to buy, I visualized myself cutting the cake. It was with a cake server that allows you to cleanly lift the piece of cake out and put it on a plate. I didn't even remember whether I owned a server like this one.
When I got home, she came over. I told her about the cake server that I had seen in my mind. I looked in one of my cabinets and I found the exact server. The funny thing is, it was brand new and it still had the tag on it from the store. Until I was in the bakery department today, I hadn't remembered that I even had this server.
Visualizing this cake server was very strange to me and I'm not sure why this happened, but I did find the best cake server to use with this cake. I'm not sure if I will remember the next time that I have a cake to serve that I have this server. I'll just have to wait to see what happens. Perhaps the visualization was my brain's way of reminding me that I had this cake server.
