(Chapter 13 Interaction with Spouse or Significant Other in my book)

Last week, my boyfriend and I were watching a Boston Bruins hockey game. A goal had been scored by one team and the other team was challenging it. They thought that someone was off-side. I have been watching NHL hockey games since the 70's, so I usually know what off-side is, but for some reason, on this particular night, not so much.

He tried explaining it to me, but it wasn't working for my brain. During this time, the commentators were also discussing the play. I was listening very carefully to them, so that I could understand. Then I told him, that I now understood the play.

He said, “that's what I was trying to tell you.” I said, “I know, but I just didn't get it.” He seemed to get a little mad at me and I really couldn't understand why because I hadn't said or done anything wrong. For some reason, the way the commentators explained the off-side call and play, I understood it. I think that he was mad because I didn't understand his explanation, but I did understand when the commentators explained it. Perhaps both explanations are what worked for my brain at this moment. Who really knows? I'm just happy that in the end, I did understand it.

This is sometimes what we go through. Communication can be challenging because I live with a memory impairment.
