Misplacing a gift card

(Chapter 5 Losing Things & Getting Lost in my book)

Today, I purchased a gift card for a friend. A short time later, I drove home. I think that it wasn't until a couple of hours later that I remembered the gift card. I thought that I had put the card in a cloth bag that I had a few groceries in. I had already unpacked the bags, but I had forgotten about the card. I found the empty cloth bags and there was no gift card in any of the bags. I looked on the back seat and on the floor of my vehicle. I usually put the cloth bags on the back seat of my vehicle. I decided to check the bag of trash in my kitchen because you just never know. I checked my wallet, although I hadn't remembered putting it there. The gift card was not in any of the places that I looked!

I decided to call the store where I purchased the gift card. I told the person who answered the phone what had happened and they told me that no one had turned one in. I asked him if there was any way of preventing someone else from using it if they found it and he said no. He took my phone number and said that he would call me if someone turned it in. I never got a phone call from the store and I guess that I really hadn't expected someone to turn it in.

I'm feeling so dumb for losing this gift card! Now I will have to go to the store and buy another gift card and try to remember to keep it in a safe place until I give it to my friend. I think that when I put it in the cloth bag on the back seat of my vehicle, that I might have dropped it and it landed on the ground and I didn't see it. Who knows if I will ever find this gift card? I really hate it when I can't remember things only a short time later.

I posted this problem online and several friends told me to the call the company and they would issue me a new card. I called the company and I gave them the information on my receipt and they will be mailing me a new card.

UPDATE: April 27, 2017

This morning, I found the missing gift card sitting on a canister of sugar on my kitchen counter. It must have stuck to something that I put on my counter and I never saw it. This is funny! I threw out the gift card, since it is no good and they are sending me another card.
