(Chapter 9 The Fog in my book)
Yesterday, my day started off well. I stopped to fill up my gas tank. This is a vehicle that I have owned since around Feb. 2016 and the place where you pump the gas is on the opposite side from my previous vehicle. So, before I pull up to the pumps, I have to remember which side it is on. Sometimes I remember the correct side and sometimes I don't. On this particular day, I did park on the correct side of the pump. Everything went well at the pump, except as I was pulling away, I thought to myself, “Did I put my gas cover back on and turn it?” Because this had happened just a few minutes before, I wasn't so sure. I decided to just drive to the store that I was going to. It was only about five minutes from the gas station. I think that as I drove there, I actually forgot about the gas cap.
On the way home, I decided to stop at my son's home to take his six-month-old German Shepherd puppy out again. I had taken him out before running errands. After I took the puppy out, I went home. I started driving to my apartment, which is only about fifteen minutes away. I hadn't gotten too far from my son's house, when I wasn't sure if I took the key out of the door or whether I locked the door. I just couldn't remember. The fog had invaded my brain again! I turned around and I went back to my son's house and I found that the key was not in the lock and that the door was locked. Then I got in my vehicle and I drove home.
This is just how my brain sometimes works. I can forget things seconds and minutes later. It is like “POOF” and the information is somehow gone!
