I never thought that one day I would not remember someone who I love

(Chapter 13 Interaction with Spouse or Significant Other in my book)

I saw this on social media: "Imagine not being able to recognize your best friend and the love of your life." I thought that because I have (MCI) mild cognitive impairment and not dementia that this would not happen to me! Then I found out how wrong I was. When I was in a long-term relationship of almost five years, with a man who I truly loved, there were moments when I was in the "fog" that I didn't know where we were or who he was. This was devastating for both of us to deal with. It was also very frightening! Living with a memory impairment is so much more than having challenges with your memory. Having mild cognitive impairment affects each and every relationship that I have. I am very thankful that this has not happened when I have been with my children or granddaughters.
