(Chapter 23 Living with a memory impairment and being a Nana in my book)

Today my daughter and son-in-law had to work and the daycare was closed. A few days ago, when she told me, I told her that I could babysit in the morning until around twelve noon. This morning, after I arrived at their house, a few minutes later they left for work. Before they left, my daughter showed me a note on the counter explaining when the babies should need bottles, naps and cereal etc. I have learned to live by notes because I don't really have a choice. They were still sleeping when I arrived. I had a fun day with my ten-month-old twin granddaughters! Everything went well and no problems at all! I feel so blessed to have these babies in my life! I think that I was there for almost five hours and I think that this is the longest time that I have babysat them. I'm so glad that their parents feel that I can handle this. Yeah me!

I have shed a lot of tears since these babies were born because my daughter has had some concerns with me babysitting them. I think that over time, she has become more comfortable with me being able to handle it. We have talked about it and she had two concerns. One was the "fog" rolling in while I was there alone with the babies and the other concern was my short-term memory problems. I can forget things seconds or a few minutes later. Luckily, I know that I always know who my children and granddaughters are.

Most of the time my long-term memory is usually pretty good. I had so much fun making new memories with these babies even if I forget a lot of them. I'm just going to enjoy this time with them and not worry about something that I can't change.

I have been a part of the twins lives since they were one day old. I usually see them and my daughter every week or sometimes every other week. When I'm there with my daughter, I'm always paying attention to how she cares for these babies so that I can do it right. Then again, maternal instincts always seem to kick in with me. Once a mom, always a mom!
