(Chapter 14 Comprehension Problems in my book)
For the past couple of weeks, I have been dealing with either a pimple or a sty inside my lower eyelid. Yesterday I got a prescription for an ointment and when I got home from the pharmacy, I read the information. I hi-lighted the section that read, “How to use this medicine.” The paper also read, “Wash your hands before and after use. Do not touch the container tip to the eye, lid or other skin. Place drug inside the lower lid”. That night, as I tried to put this medicine in my lower lid, my eye kept closing. Because it is an ointment it is thick as it very slowly comes out of the tube. I decided to take my finger, squeeze a little ointment on it and put the medicine in my lower lid. The next step was “Close the eye for one to two minutes. Roll eyeball around.” Obviously, I could keep my eye closed for one to two minutes but I had no clue how to roll my eyeball around. I just moved my eyelid back and forth as if that was going to move the eyeball. I really didn't know if this worked!
The next day I decided to take the information sheet to the pharmacy. As I spoke to the pharmacist, I told her my problem with getting the ointment into my lower lid. I told her how I had used my finger and she said that was fine as long as I had clean hands, which I did. Then I told her about my lack of comprehension that sometimes happens and that I didn't understand how to roll my eyeball around. There was a woman who was working behind the pharmacy and she overheard my problem. She told me to keep my eye closed and just look in different directions, up, side, down, other side. I thanked them both for their help. Hopefully when I put the ointment into my lower lid tonight that it will go well. These instructions did work well for me.
