For me, a positive of being diagnosed with a memory impairment is that I appreciate everything in my life so much more now. I live for each moment and not take anything for granted. Before being diagnosed, I was married to a verbally and emotionally abusive man. I left him about one year after my diagnosis. In a way, the diagnosis forced me to change my life for the better. I'm still enjoying and living my life to the fullest. What I won't do is apologize if I repeat something that I have already told someone or not be able to find a word when I talk because this is not my fault and I can't change it.
I also continue to decide who I tell about my diagnosis and who I don't. When I first meet someone, they don't need to know. I want them to get to know "me" and also not judge me for the problems with my brain.
