(Chapter 17 Working while living with a Memory Impairment in my book)
When I was working two jobs, I would tell people about my diagnosis at both of my jobs on a "need to know basis". We had a lot of changes in administration so there was a time when I didn't remember whether the principal knew or not. I worked with so many teachers over the fifteen years that I worked there. If I was working with a teacher that I had never worked with before, I would go into the classroom and do my job as I always did.
For me, it is difficult to tell someone who you work with about your diagnosis, but sometimes there are reasons that it has to be done. I think as long as you are still able to do your job, you can't be fired because you told them about your diagnosis.
I can no longer be successful with multi-step verbal directions. Just knowing that, has helped me to advocate for myself.
