(Chapter 6 Living with a Memory Impairment in my book)

This afternoon I went to see a show called Piano Man with a close friend. Two guys played the pianos and sang either separately on stage or together.

While I was sitting there enjoying this show, it reminded me why this was so enjoyable for me. I have always loved music, but especially 70's music because that it what I grew up listening to. I can usually remember the song titles, lyrics, artists and sometimes even the year the song was released. It is just my way of staying focused on the things that make me happy rather than what frustrates me. I might not remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday but who cares. I can remember lots of things that are in my long-term memory and I am so very thankful for that. I live with a memory impairment called mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and it usually affects my short-term memory much more than my long-term memory. During this show, the majority of the music I knew the words, titles and the original artists.

There was something at the very beginning of the show that kind of drove my brain crazy, but luckily it didn't last that long. While the two guys were on stage performing, there was a video running behind them on stage. It looked like piano keys. I was so glad when that stopped. I also know that when I am on social media, I will have problems with very fast-moving graphics. I'm not sure why that happens but my guess is that my brain is unable to comprehend the moving graphics. I'm pretty sure that this was not a problem before the symptoms of MCI entered my life.
