(Chapter 14 Comprehension Problems in my book)
Recently I bought my twin granddaughters some new coloring books. Before mailing them, I looked through them and found some activity pages. They are almost 2 1/2 years old, so they are too young to do these pages. I decided to make some copies of these pages before mailing them. As I was looking at the pages, I found myself trying to solve them. After I took a guess, I checked the answer key at the bottom of the page. All of my answers were correct! On one page it had a picture of a bowl of popcorn, a slice of pizza, a plate of cookies and a banana. The directions were to circle the object that did not belong. I didn't expect this to happen when I took a guess on the answer to this page.
The answer that was given in the book was number four the banana. I thought for sure that the answer was pizza and that is because all of the other foods are considered snacks and pizza can be a meal. I wonder how many other adults would get this wrong with or without a memory impairment.
I know that when I was a child I struggled with comprehension. I think that this is something that has been challenging throughout my life. With a diagnosis and symptoms of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) that has now taken my lack of comprehension to a new level. I think that before the MCI symptoms, I could hide my lack of comprehension when I was with someone. I think with the MCI that is not happening as much.
