(Chapter 3 Memory Problems in my book)
I would think that I could take a one mile walk without any problems, but that isn’t what happened today. I usually try to walk 2-3 times a week. I have a bad knee but I sacrifice the knee for my overall health. During the walk, I usually listen to music and I keep track of the miles on my IPOD. I decided to walk around the outside track and I know that four times around is one mile. I was very tired before even starting the walk but I still wanted to get my walk in. I have done this many times and I am always able to count four times around and then I’m done. For some reason that didn’t happen today.
As I was walking around the track listening to my music, I started getting very tired but for some reason I lost track of how many times I had already walked around the track. I was telling myself that I would only go around one more time. Even if I didn’t walk a mile today that was okay.
Boy, was I shocked when I looked at my music player after getting in my car. I thought that I might have only walked about 3/4 mile but when I looked at my music player it read 1.44 miles which means that I walked almost 1 ½ miles. I had to look at it several times because I didn't believe that I had walked that far. I must have been distracted by my music and that is why I lost track of how many times I had gone around the track.
My knee will usually recover within about twenty-four hours after a one-mile walk. But going this distance, my knee was incredibly sore and I don’t know how long it will take to recover. I'm not really sure how I can prevent this from happening in the future but hopefully I will figure it out.
UPDATE: May 29, 2020
My knee pain has been horrible since this walk. It really hasn’t settled down because I walked way too much. Yesterday I could hardly walk on it. It took at least one week for my knee to recover from this walk.
