Jan. 5, 2016 (Chapter 2 Acceptance and Denial in my book)
I not only accept that I have a memory impairment but I accept all the problems that go along with this diagnosis. Some of the many problems include memory, word retrieval and the fog. These are things that I have accepted as part of my life. I have gotten used to dealing with the symptoms. Besides, I don't really have a choice! I did not choose to have a memory impairment. It is just something that happened in my life.
There are also times when I can't remember parts of my day. I have learned to accept that this happens. I also know that there is nothing that I can do to prevent these things from happening. I don't know if I will ever get used to the fog but I have learned to accept it.
It is very common for me to have problems with word retrieval. That is something that I have accepted and I have just gotten used to dealing with it. There doesn't seem to be anything that I can do to prevent these things from happening. I have learned how to cope with these symptoms.
