August 23, 2020 (Chapter 20 Advocacy in my book)

About a little more than one year ago, I started attending a weekly singles bible study group at my church. I think that five people from this group are now friends with me on social media. At first, I was not comfortable with them knowing about my memory impairment. I figured out that when I posted, I had an option of who could see the post. When I would post something about me living with mild cognitive impairment, I would make my post seen by my friends except these five people.

Recently, I have decided to be transparent to people from my bible study group. Today, one woman from this group made a very positive comment about a poem that I wrote. Now I know that I did the right thing in being transparent. I need to continue to educate people about what it is like to live with a memory impairment.
