March 7, 2016 (Chapter 7 Driving While Living with a Memory Impairment in my book)
Recently I bought a new vehicle. I chose to buy one with upgrades such as a built-in navigation. Before making this purchase, I had a navigation system that I had to plug in. When I needed to go to unfamiliar places, I would use it. Even with this system, there were times when I would get frustrated because I would still get lost. One feature that I really hated about the system was if I missed a turn it would say "recalculating". I always knew that meant that I had not followed the directions correctly. I really hated that it reminded me that even using a GPS, I could still somehow get lost! Whenever it would say, "recalculating", I would be thinking, "thanks for reminding me." I'm so glad that this built-in navigation system does not do that. If I make a wrong turn, it will just recalculate on its own, but not tell me that I've done something wrong. I will not even know that I made a mistake. Using the built-in navigation system is much easier for me to use and I'm glad that I have it. The fact that this system is much easier to use really works for my brain!
