Finding the humor

Sometimes it is very challenging for me to follow a conversation that I'm having with someone. For example, my boyfriend said something to me and I guess I didn't really remember what he said. After I responded to him, we both realized that I hadn't responded correctly. We had a good laugh because it was pretty funny. I told him that I must have forgotten what he said. I tried to guess what it was and I must have been wrong. That is why I responded incorrectly and it was funny.
