You need to be supportive, understanding, patient, and compassionate. Ask the person who is living with a memory impairment how you can help them. If they tell you that they are having trouble understanding your words, you could reword it to see if that helps. Please know that this is not something that they can change.

You might need to adjust your expectations of the person who has a memory impairment. An example of this might be that the person used to always be on time, but now they are usually late. Perhaps you could ask them if they would like you to remind them of when and where you are going to meet.
