Nov. 13, 2017 (Chapter 15 Medical Appointments and its Challenges in my book) I need to make sure that this is not a duplicate

Recently, I got an e-mail from Follow my Health patient portal from my primary care doctor's office. I clicked on the link to see what had been added to my online medical record. What I saw really shocked me! Someone added MCI - Mild Cognitive Impairment diagnosis to my records. What is shocking about this is I was misdiagnosed in July of 2005 with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease (EOAD). A few months later my diagnosis was changed to mild cognitive impairment (MCI). I'm not really sure why it has taken my primary care doctor's office more than twelve years to add this to my records! It might be because when I recently seen by a physician's assistant, I told her that I wanted my records to reflect this diagnosis. I told her that I wanted any medical person from their office that when they are talking to me, whether on the phone or in person, that it would be good if they made sure that I understood what was being said. I don’t think that she really liked my idea and her response was that I should bring a small notebook to each one of my doctor's appointments. I hate to say it, but my primary care doctor's office is not listening to me when I tell them what I need. This is so frustrating because I know what works and what doesn't, but I will just continue to advocate for myself until they get tired of hearing me! I have no other choice! I am on my own and I go to these appointments alone, so there isn’t another set of ears to hear what I'm hearing at my doctor’s appointment.

I know that the diagnosis process started with their office! I remember being seen for an injury to my right elbow and I mentioned to the doctor that I was concerned about my memory. I was only forty-seven year. old and he doctor took my concerns seriously even though he had never treated me in the past. After that appointment, I now have him as my primary care doctor.
