The challenges of living with a memory impairment

Earlier today, I was online getting ready to place an order. I have shopped online at this site many times with very little problems. In the past, I think that the only problems that I had while I was on this site was inputting coupons and store cash as I checked out, but today that wasn’t a problem. Today I was ordering some soft books for my youngest granddaughter for Easter. As I added these items to my cart, everything was going well. I was able to figure out how to apply my store cash and discount. Then I encountered my first problem. When I had three different books in my cart, it showed on my computer screen as $5.05 each. I decided to order two of each. I plan on giving one to my granddaughter and I will put one of each book away for the toy drive before Christmas. Logically, I thought that if one book was $5.05, then two books should be $10.10. Instead, after I added another book in my cart, the total for that book changed to over $11.00. I kept playing with the cart online and this amount didn’t change. This just didn’t make sense to me!

I looked up the customer service phone number online and I called them. As I was talking to the customer service representative, I realized that even her explanation didn’t make sense to me. I just had to lie and tell her that I understood her explanation. I had to do this because there was no way that talking to her longer was going to change that. I knew that, so I just had to let it go because it wasn’t going to happen. I accept that sometimes these things happen and there is nothing that I can do to change that. I guess the positive side of this phone call is that I saved $8.95 shipping charge! The representative said that she was going to waive the shipping charges.

For some reason, since I have been living with a memory impairment, I need things to make sense to me. Sometimes it just drives me nuts if I can’t do that.

As we completed my order over the phone, I suddenly realized that there was another problem. It happened when she asked me for my address. I panicked because at that moment, I couldn’t remember my address. I felt like an idiot. I asked her to please hold on for a moment. I remembered that I had a contact on my cell phone called “me”. I made it soon after I moved into my new apartment in May 2019. I found the contact information and I read it to her on the phone and I completed my order. I can’t believe that I forgot my home address!
