August 2, 2017(Chapter 15 Medical Appointments and its Challenges & Chapter 20 Advocacy in my book)
Today, I needed to see a physician assistant at my primary care provider's office. After we addressed the reason for the visit, I told her that I also needed to talk to her about a couple of things. I had written down some notes, so I read from the paper. This is what I told her: “Because of my MCI diagnosis, I need there to be a notation on my file so that whenever anyone from their office speaks to me, they will be aware of it. I would like the staff to make sure that I understand what is being said to me.” Her response to me was that she told me that I need to bring a notebook to all of my appointments so that I could write things down. I told her about the situation about the knee exercises and she said that she would have someone call me.
Her response to me about bringing a notebook to each appointment makes me think that she has no clue about the accommodations that I need their office to make for me. I'm feeling sad and frustrated!
