Was I supposed to know how to do that?

A few days ago, I went to my primary care doctor’s office for my yearly physical. It was being done by one of the physician assistants. As she was looking at my records on her laptop. She told me that it had been ten years since I had a tetanus shot. She asked me if I would like to get it today and I said yes. When she was done with my physical, she told me that someone else was going to take care of my shot. A few minutes later, someone came into the room with the injection. She asked me which arm I preferred and I said the left arm. She said that I would have less pain if I could loosen the muscle. I think that she was referring to the muscle in my upper arm. After she said this to me, I wondered if I should know how to do that. There are a couple of reasons why that didn’t happen and the first reason is because I really hate needles! The second reason why I didn’t loosen this muscle was because I really didn’t understand how to do that. Before she gave me the shot, she tried to loosen the muscle up.
It wasn’t until hours later when I was washing dishes that I even thought about this again. I don’t even know if I ever been able to loosen a muscle on demand. It doesn’t help that I am not a fan of needles. Unfortunately, my upper arm has been extremely sore from this shot! Today, I was finally able to raise my arm above my head while I was taking a shower.
