Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) means that someone does not have a form of dementia but that their brain doesn't function like most people their age. I think that there is only a small percentage of MCI patients who progress to dementia. I was diagnosed a little over thirteen years ago and I still have MCI and not dementia. Not all MCI patients progress to dementia. Some of the symptoms can look very similar such as short-term memory problems, experiencing the "fog", searching for words in your brain.
