What I have to do so that I carve a cooked roast beef the right way

July 14, 2020 (Chapter 6 Living with a Memory Impairment in my book)
Today I went food shopping and I was in the meat department. I wanted to pick out a top of the round roast that was on sale. I think that I usually buy a roast beef between 3-5 pounds. Because I live alone, I have the butcher cut it in half. So far, I think that my story could be anyone's, nothing unusual. I will also ask the butcher to tie each roast the way that I would cut it after it is cooked.
Many years ago, before mild cognitive impairment entered my life, I didn't need to have it tied. I knew about the grain and I would usually cut it the right way. Since the memory impairment symptoms rolled in, I can't remember or understand about cutting it and the grain. As long as they tie it the right way, it will guarantee that I cut it the right way.
I'm pretty sure that I didn't think of this by myself. I think that one conversation that I had with one of the butchers included me saying something like this, “I always seem to cut it the wrong way.” He explained about the grain and I told him that used to work for my brain but now not so much. He told me that he could tie it in the way that I would cut it. I have been doing this ever since that conversation. A few minutes later they handed me my roast cut in half and tied. Mission accomplished.
