Nov. 22, 2020 (Chapter 1 Symptoms and Diagnosis in my book)
In 2005 at age 47 I was diagnosed with EOAD- Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease. A few months later my diagnosis was changed to mild cognitive impairment (MCI). It means that I don't have dementia but my brain does work like most people my age. I am now sixty-two years old. If you feel that your brain is not functioning as well as it used to, then you should be checked by a doctor. I would start with your primary care doctor and they will refer you to a neurologist if they feel that it is needed. For me getting a diagnosis, made me know that I wasn't going crazy and that there was something wrong with my brain. Getting a diagnosis meant that I could take some time to accept the diagnosis. Then it was time for me to figure out how to deal with the mild cognitive impairment symptoms.
