Why did it take me so long to figure this out?

June 8, 2019 (Chapter 18 Problem Solving and Making Decisions in my book)
About two months ago, I moved into a new apartment building. A few times I have met and talked to some of the residents who meet at night in a community room. With the warmer weather, they must be meeting outside because I haven't found them in the community room. One night I had my window open and I heard some voices. I looked out my window and I could see some residents. The problem is I have no idea how to get to where they are sitting. I just can't figure this out. Perhaps one day I will figure it out but for now I can't do that. I don't really feel comfortable asking one of the residents how to get there if I see them in the hallway or laundry room.
Update:
It was almost a year later before I was able to figure out how to get to the area where the residents sit outside when the weather is nice. This happened by accident! The only way that I was able to figure it out was because they were doing some work in our parking lot. I usually park in the front of the building, but for a couple of days I had to park in the back. One day I looked around after I parked my car and was headed towards the door. I stopped and looked out back and realized that there was a patio there with a picnic bench. I figured that was where the residents have been sitting. Because I have a problem with my knee, doing a lot of walking causes me a great deal of pain. I knew how to get to this patio from outside the building but that was going to be a long walk on concrete which is difficult for me. I figured out that if I took the lift to the second floor, that I would probably find a door that led to the patio. One night when I heard their voices not far from my apartment, I decided to try it. Luckily, I was able to find the patio! It only took me almost a year!
